This summer, the Strategy team was joined by two fantastic interns. They were both named Danny, but we promise that’s not a prerequisite to intern here. Here’s their two cents on life at NJI.

Daniel Martinez
Strategy Intern

I’ve always been a curious person, questioning everything whenever and wherever I can. That’s why I have trouble, like many my age do, answering the existential questions: What do I want out of life, and what does it mean to be yourself? For me, the answers became more clear during my time at NJI.

My first day at NJI I stood in front of this bright blue door, buzzed in, and trotted up the rustic wood stairs. As I entered a beautifully brick-encompassed space, I smiled. Greeted by the strategy team I was given a tour of the office and shown my desk, right in the middle of the action. I set my bag down, booted up my laptop, and got to work.

I was given the freedom and creative space to tackle various projects, from creating digital web campaigns with the design and development teams to presenting a pitch deck about the future of AI and automation in the workplace. I arrived at my internship expecting to learn about design strategies for client’s digital footprints.

In the end, my experience encompassed much more than that. I tackled holistic societal problems including political, financial, and technological factors and was able to help clients push their business’s value in the best way possible.

More importantly, I was in love with my job. My role with the strategy team provided me the autonomy to solve problems from a both a micro and macro point of view, utilize the skills and knowledge I’ve accumulated over time, and gave me the pleasure of going to work happy every morning. I was able to be me, the best me possible.

As an intern, I had the opportunity to create value through the creation of great products with a team I could call my friends. It was truly a privilege working with such an amazing group of people. From the brainstorming sessions to the various birthdays, I will never forget the feeling this team gave me day after day.

For those of you fortunate enough to be part of an incredible group of people like this, give them everything you’ve got, as they will do the same. Be you, the best you.
