One Friday morning last month, a lucky few of our Strategy team members were able to snag a ticket for CreativeMornings at the Studio Theatre in DC.

CreativeMornings is a community and event series for creative people. The free, monthly event features a short, thought-provoking talk with great coffee and breakfast hosted in various cities worldwide.

For the DC chapter, May’s speaker was Jon Reiling, Group Creative Director at AKQA. After attending this one-of-a-kind event, this is what some of our Strategy team members had to say;

“I’ve been to 18 Creative Mornings events, and the ones that standout, for me, are the ones about process and a killer presentation. As someone in the Creative world, the terms “Deck”, “Slides”, “Presentation” and “PPT” make me eyeroll so hard. People overemphasize their purpose, Jon Reiling ran his PPT from behind his back! REAL TALK. Behind his back.  With perfect timing and not even a glance to see if he was on the right slide. He also knows how to tell a story: make it personal. He had the confidence to bring his wife’s mental health diagnosis into his presentation to help explain a method of delivery and interpretation for effective creative feedback. I take it back, this was my favorite DC CM.”

“I loved the atmosphere of the event, it wasn’t your typical DC professionals networking event. I enjoyed meeting people from such different professional industries come together with the commonality of creativity. Although this was just my first event, I look forward to attending many more in this wonderful city!”

“Jon Reiling’s talk was powerful and shifted my mentality of how we perceive creative projects from each side. He brought in a real-life perspective that changed how we should bring our past experiences into each and every project. In collaborative spaces like ours, his points made me consider how we all interpret feedback and success of our deliverables, and how a project progresses from conception to reality.”

Make sure to find the next CreativeMornings event in your city!

Without the support of their partners, CreativeMornings wouldn’t be the same. Thank you to Huge, Capital One Labs, D.C. United, Threespot, Edelman and to Studio Theatre for hosting!
