How to Feed a Web Army – A Look at NJI’s 2012

Being huge fans of data, we’re loving all the end-of-year round ups being released by Google, Facebook, Twitter and Yahoo! during the past few weeks. If you weren’t totally sure the London Olympics and Gangnam Style were the biggest stories of 2012, our favorite social media networks and search engines now have backed it up with hard facts.

In the spirit of the year-end review season, I thought I’d do some data-crunching of my own. Using some of the data about the NJI front office’s purchasing patterns this year, I was able to deduce a little bit about our consumption habits for this year.


  • 2,741 cups of coffee
  • 901 Vitamin Waters
  • 789 bottled waters
  • 721 Diet Cokes
  • 541 Izze Sodas
  • 541 Mexican Cokes
  • 361 Cokes
  • 270 bottles of Perrier
  • 90 Honest Kids juicepacks


  • 4,056 Starbursts
  • 608 Rice Krispies Treats
  • 541 packs of Goldfish
  • 541 Pop Tarts
  • 507 Cheez-It Bags
  • 473 bags of popcorn
  • 203 Granola Bars
  • 34 pounds of Honey Nut Cheerios (that’s like a billion Cheerios)
  • …or 421 pounds of food.

After Hours

  • 2 bottles of Bailey’s
  • 2 bottles of gin
  • 4 bottles of rum
  • 4 bottles of tequila
  • 3 bottles of vodka
  • 2 bottles of whiskey
  • …or about 1,000 shots.

All in all, that’s about 94,068 ounces of liquid and 421 pounds of food. Some analysis and reflection of the above numbers brings me to a few conclusions.

  1. NJI likes food. A lot. But you probably knew that already, given how much we talk about it.
  2. Apart from Vitamin Water (whose nutritional value is dubious at best), a balanced diet doesn’t seem to be a high priority at the Warehouse. I am okay with this.
  3. If the world does end today, we’ll have a nice stockpile of snack food, soda and alcohol on hand to see us a few days into the post-apocalyptic chaos.
  4. The mass of Rice Krispies Treats can be attributed to our love of the Ultimate Treat Challenge. Josh holds the 2012 title with 49.4 seconds, but I’m sure he’ll have a new round of challengers in 2013.

Also in 2013: forgetting Gangnam Style, moving in to our new offices and 5,000 Starburst. We’ll hit 5,000. Watch us.
