Capturing That Perfect Idea

We’re in the creative ideas business – and we love it. Every day we’re either executing on a creative idea or trying to come up with a unique concept that will excite our clients and help amplify their efforts. We’ve learned over the years, ideas come from everywhere. And because an idea can jump into your head in a matter of moments – whether it’s on your commute, at the gym, in the shower or walking your dog, it’s critical that you capture that idea quickly before it’s gone. So what’s the best way to capture that instantaneous creativity? We’ve […]

We’re Good at a Lot of Things, Bowling Is Not One of Them

Last night NJI Media joined forces with FamousDC and Bryant Row at Pinstripes in Georgetown. Two hours later, we learned four things.

At NJI Media we love Slack. It’s a messaging app that not only lets us collaborate, but also allows us to have some fun throughout the workday. This is an example of how we use Slack at NJI Media. It’s a story of something that just happened outside our office window – as told by a staffer who will remain anonymous.

Meet our New Senior Strategist

Meet Natasha.   Natasha is the newest member of the Strategy Team. We think she’ll be an amazing addition to our already impressive team lineup. She comes to us with seven years’ agency experience, with a wide range of client interaction from Fortune 500 companies to DC HIV community clinics. She’s also an expert on the ski slopes and she got a shoutout in Politico PI yesterday. Natasha will be heading up some of our largest client efforts here at NJI Media – expect to hear big things from her projects.

Doing Digital: Three Things I’ve Learned Along the Way

Last week we had a team lunch. We ate spicy chicken. It was delicious. During that lunch we talked about the year ahead and I (briefly) spoke about things I’ve learned while working at NJI Media. During my five minute presentation nobody fell asleep; since that’s a first, and because because Phill is very persuasive, I decided to share a few of my thoughts on our blog. After working on thousands of projects, with dozens of talented people over a seven year span, it’s safe to say I’ve learned a few things along the way. Below are three I shared […]

It’s Okay To Own Your (Social Media) Mistakes

Everyone makes mistakes – even the smartest people in the room. And even your favorite publications. However, not everyone owns up to those mistakes, especially on social media. In a world where information moves faster than the speed of light, often times when we goof on social media the knee jerk reaction is to ‘DELETE’ the post as quickly as we can; but that doesn’t always need to be the case. As social media evolves and becomes more personal, it’s okay to admit mistakes. Take this Slate example from yesterday. Instead of including a picture of an adorable squirrel and horse […]

Selecting A Project Management Software Solution

Six months ago Derek and I set out to change the world find a new project management solution for our creative agency. Little did we know a seemingly simple task would turn into a labor of love. The Dilemma For years, the NJI team used the Basecamp Classic project management software. It fit our needs perfectly; but like anything else in an industry that evolves quickly, our needs changed. In order to figure out what our needs were, Derek conducted a thorough series of internal stakeholder meetings. Similar to what we do with our clients during the Discovery phase of a […]

This Is What Happens When You Let Your Development Team Cook Lunch

Over the past several weeks each division at NJI Media has cooked lunch for the rest of the team. Today we were lucky enough to have lunch prepared by the development team. According to the initial buzz around the office, expectations were low – so low that most people brought a backup plan to the office this morning. The verdict: delicious. Our team of developers are not only the most talented team of digital experts in DC, they’re also darn good cooks. On today’s dev_team_lunch_js v1.0.0 menu: Beef, steak and Korean tacos Chicken diablo Cilantro rice Homemade salsa, guacamole & […]

More NJI Media Birthdays Which Means More Reasons To Eat

In celebration of the birthdays of Alex and Andrew, Nathan again took to the kitchen to prepare another delicious meal for the team. On today’s menu: Chicken curry, tandoori chicken, cucumber salad, basmati rice, naan & Indian sangria. Oh, and pie which we learned Alex doesn’t like. Happy Birthday to two of our favorite creative team members.

NJI Media Baby Count Hits Five

Congratulations are in order for Dave and Carolyn Tate on the birth of their beautiful baby girl. Maxine Elizabeth was born on Sunday and clocked in at a healthy 8lbs, 10oz. According Dave, NJI Media’s Director of Development, and the proud papa, he’s already created Maxine’s GitHub account and will begin training her in short order. As the NJI Media nursery continues to expand, the team couldn’t be more happy for both Dave and Carolyn. Editors note: Carolyn (mom) used to work at NJI Media where she met Dave. The two secretly (everybody knew) dated and then married (not secretly). The […]
