Challenge The Status Quo – A Mantra

We aren’t your typical rinse and repeat agency that churns out the same work over and over again. We do things differently and we are proud of that fact. At an agency where change and evolution are at the center of who we are; one key value remains a constant. Our inability to be normal. Our passion for individuality. Our drive to challenge the status quo. That is our mantra. In true NJI fashion we’ve documented this mantra on the largest wall in our office. Watch the time-lapse process video to see how it all went down. Challenge The Status […]

Designing for Mobile: iPhone 6

With the recent launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the design community praised Apple for its new devices and collectively groaned at Apple for coming out with two new resolutions. Designers now have five different resolutions to consider. And there are some funky issues with scaling introduced by the new iPhone. This post will help you understand the differences and provide some resources to help ease your pain. Before we get started, here’s an illustration of all five screen resolutions to help you visualize the differences. First, let’s talk about pixel density. “Original iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS have density of 163ppi. Let’s call it […]

You Should Write That Down

It’s always exciting to see print collateral in the flesh for the first time. A fresh delivery of notebooks came in this morning and we’re still buzzing. We were running dangerously low on these the past couple weeks and knew it was time for a reorder. I don’t know what it is about small pocketable notebooks that makes people freak out but everyone seems to want one of these and we ended up flying through our first batch like hot cakes. To help these last a bit longer we opted for a larger size notebook with more page real estate […]

Photoshop Freebies for Developers

I’ll start this off by saying that we love giving back to the design/dev community in any way that we can. Lately, we’ve been really busy and unfortunately, we haven’t had as much time as we would like to spend on creating tasty morsels of awesomeness to give away to all you guys. We recently released an iOS7 UI Stencil for Omnigraffle and due to the overwhelming response we thought we’d give a little love to the developers out there. We know one of the worst parts of being a web developer is exporting assets from psd files. So, the […]

iOS 7 UI Stencil for Omnigraffle

We wireframe quite often. When we do, we use Omnigraffle. Omnigraffle has this great feature called “stencils”. Stencils are basically a collection of graphical elements that are easily accessible for use in your wireframes and prototypes. Whenever we find ourselves with an iOS project we always start in omnigraffle to get the basic structure and flow of the app. With the release of iOS7 there has been a gap in freely available stencils that represent the newly redesigned iOS user interface. We decided we needed to fill that gap so we created our own iOS7 iPhone UI stencil for Omnigraffle. […]

Food For Thought

Some people eat to live… At NJI we live to eat. Nothing proves this concept more than taking a look back at our consumption habits over the last 8 months. We’ve had our ups and downs and most of those have been caffeine and/or sugar related. It’s not our fault. Who can resist a tasty Rice Crispy treat or two? Our Strategy team tracked our habits and put together enough data to keep us busy for hours. Our Design team was able to distill the data down to some pretty awesome and mildly depressing numbers. Needless to say when it came […]

Photoshop Timesavers – Building Actions and Batch Processing

I have a love/hate relationship with Photoshop. Photoshop is the program countless people use in the web design and development industry, all day, everyday. It takes weeks, and often months, to complete a design from start to finish. Saving time in Photoshop can cut back on those countless hours of design. This means less time in front of the computer, and more time enjoying life (or other design media). Over the next few months, we’ll look at a host of ways to be more Photoshop-efficient, but today, I’d like to cover the ins and outs of building Actions and automating […]
