We’ve been busy at NJI, and thats great because it’s given us opportunities to build some time saving tools for WordPress that we would like to share with the web development community. Our first batch of freebies is a pack of widgets I built to replace or enhance a few of the default widgets on WordPress.
- KJD Custom Menu– This is just like the standard WP navigation widget, but this lets you add an image before the menu. In other words, now you can add an image to your WP dashboard and personalize the experience for your clients. Keen!
- KJD Custom Text – Similar to the standard WP text widget, but has extra fields for a subtitle, an image to display, a URL to link to, and the text for the aforementioned URL link. This one stop shot enhancement is all you need to make your job easier and your content managers happy.
- KJD Page Excerpt – Choose a page and you will have the option to display a content teaser. This enhancement has standard KJD fields: image field, and subtitle (soon to have URL and URL text fields).
- KJD Recent Category Posts – We wanted to be able to find posts quickly. So, I created this enhancement that allows content mangers to display recent posts for the specified category. There are lots of options, but to name a few: post status, title display (title, dates, title & date, ect, ect), display except, the read more text, and list type.
You can download these WordPress enhancements here: Download from GitHub

As a parting note, all widgets are optimized for Twitter Bootstrap. If you’re using a theme on bootstrap, you’ll get some nice features like menu styles and the such. And if you’re not, you could always get your hands dirty or stay tuned for the update.
