Our Chief Panda Officer (CPO), always near the genesis of an inspired idea (or cocktail), often recalls Marcel Proust’s wit for answering Victorian parlor game questions. Pixel has traveled far from the salons of Paris, but her interest remains piqued in which questions truly reflect a person’s character. Packing just the right amount of punch, NJI created The Pixel Questionnaire to give a glimpse into the inner workings of some of our most intriguing minds.

We scoped out the perfect English countryside and our very best fluffy gowns to frolic with Graphic Designer Katie Mills for the latest interview with NJI’s CPO Pixel. After discussing her brilliant strategy for remembering all her passwords (hint: there’s an elephant involved), we dove into discussing our favorite sushi spots and exactly what is a Gemini vegetarian. Read on to learn a little more about what makes this talented Annapolis, MD-based designer the life of the (pasta) party.

What is your spirit animal?

Red Pandas. Cute little nocturnal guys who enjoy their ‘me time.’

If you had a superpower?

I would be able to quickly master any new skill I try.

What is your most unusual talent?

I can wiggle my weird looking ears.

On what occasions do you lie?

I tell myself I look great as I stuff my face with the carbiest of carbs.

If not yourself, who would you be?

Elle Woods. I would go to law school and be a Gemini vegetarian.

If you could jump into a pool of something, what would it be?

Buttery linguine. Then I’d eat my way through the shallow end.

If you could breed two animals together, what would they be?

A penguin and a puppy. I want it to waddle around with floppy ears.

What would you do if you got stuck in an elevator?

I’d do absolutely anything… except pry open the doors and try to crawl out.

What is your favorite drink?

I rarely let myself drink it nowadays, but a nice hot Cafe Mocha with whipped cream and extra chocolate drizzlie drizzles.

If a movie were made about your career, what would be the title?

Took Ya Long Enough To Start: Welcome to Your 30’s.

You’ve been given an elephant. What do you do?

Give the elephant all my internet passwords since he’d never forget. He’d be my login buddy.

If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I’ll never turn down some salmon nigiri.

Your most treasured possession?

My whole world is on my computer, I wish it wasn’t so.

What’s the greatest length you’ve gone to for a client?

Doing amends from my phone at my own birthday bottomless brunch. I don’t recommend!

Do you have any superstitions?

nahhhh.

If you could go back in time, where would you go?

I’d go back to the late 1800’s and roam the English countryside in a fluffy gown.

What is something you hate but wish you loved?

Art/Design and I have always struggled to be besties.

Garden gnomes — what do you think?

A misunderstood and endangered species. You hardly ever see them on front lawns anymore.

If you joined the circus, what would your circus act be?

Making animals out of cotton candy.

What one object do you take with you on a desert island (you have water and food already)?

Probably my Kindle.

Who inspires you?

Filmmakers and Directors. I love the amount of work, detail and thought that goes behind every aspect of bringing a world together. I’ll never get tired of watching movies.

What is something you get wrong every time you try?

I’ve had multiple people TRY to teach me how to drive a stick. I’m terrible at it.

Who would you like to sit next to on a 10 hour flight?

Keanu Reeves, I feel like he would be polite and offer me his bag of peanuts and life story.

What was the last gift you got someone?

I bought a friend a salt and pepper set which we strangely split, now we each have one shaker. Long story!

If you could talk to one species of animals, which one would it be?

Birds. Then I could send them to do my bidding like a Disney villain, I mean… princess.

If NJI were a television show or movie, what would it be?

Something along the lines of The Devil Wears Prada meets Dunkirk.

Who will Pixel interview next? The subject is yet to be revealed, but your patience will be rewarded. She always has the most unexpected ideas.
