Video games are transforming society as creators, enthusiasts, and casual players immerse themselves in worlds that blend art, science, and technology. As a tool for social impact, the ESA Foundation’s entertainment technology programming elevates the many vibrant, diverse voices of the gaming community. The ESA Foundation has a critical need for an online presence that both reflects and attracts its audience. NJI reworked the ESA Foundation’s brand and rebuilt its website, consolidating several web properties into one user-friendly hub.

Amplifying the voices of next-generation entertainment technology innovators





Through a detailed discovery process, we identified the goals of the ESA Foundation: prioritize a fresh, lively aesthetic; focus on the human elements of game design and development; and build a flexible tool that the ESA Foundation can update with ease.

Armed with this information, we approached design and development with an eye toward three key factors. To strengthen brand presence, we consolidated and elevated the ESA Foundation’s sub-brands with cohesive, punchy design. To address accessibility, we ensured that the ESA Foundation’s diverse audience could easily navigate the site. Finally, to increase adaptability, we employed Oxygen Builder for WordPress because of its modular, easy-to-update structure and front-end versatility.

With an effortless user journey in mind, and to facilitate movement between modules, we developed animated forms to lead users down a page. Based on shapes typically found on game controllers, we coded for random movements that give the site a sense of freshness with every visit.

High-contrast, bright colors and images of the ESA Foundation’s community of supporters, scholars, grantees, and gamer-innovators give energy to the final website. By increasing the visibility of scholar and grantee highlights, we put stories front and center — personalizing the ESA Foundation’s mission and showcasing real impact.
